Historical background:

The Chi Mei neurosurgery department was established in March of 1988, and was approved in ’91 as a neurosurgical specialty training center by the Taiwan Neurosurgical Society. An addition of one neurosurgical resident can be trained annually. Ever since the introduction of the cyberknife in ’08, we have provided both surgical and non-surgical treatment options for patients with neurological tumors and arteriovenous malformations, and our collaboration with interventional neuroradiologists using embolizationtechniques ensures a complete range of the invasive to the most conservative care. In addition, an integrative multidisciplinary Stroke Center and Trauma Center was established for the care of stroke patients and patients with traumatic brain injury since 2009. Our research laboratory was setup as well for further advancement in the field of fundamental neurology research.
