Profile:

According to an article by De-Meng Xia et al., published in Military Medical Research in 2021 (DOI: https://doi.org/10.1186/s40779-021-00300-z), titled "Advances in Heat Stroke Research from 1989 to 2019: A Bibliometric Analysis," all related publications on heat stroke (Heat Stroke, HS) from 1989 to 2019 were selected using Web of Science. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS and GraphPad Prism 8, while VOSviewer was used to visualize research trends in HS from the perspective of co-occurring keywords. Prof. Lin’s research publications and citation rates on heat stroke are ranked first globally. The following outlines Prof. Lin's research findings, especially in heat-related disease, over the year:

  • Identification of cardiac proteomics (Journal of Proteome Research 2008) and hypothalamic proteomics (Proteomics 2015), revealing key molecular expressions causing myocardial and neuronal damage, blood-brain barrier disruption, and systemic and neural inflammation.
  • Overexpression of heat shock protein 70 significantly reduces heat damage, associated with changes in cardiac mechanical efficiency and arterial elasticity adjustments (Int J Cardiol 2013, FEBS Open Bio 2015, Int J Cardiol 2016, J Pharma Pharmacol 2018, Sci Rep 2019).
  • Mechanisms related to preventing and treating acute lung injury (Clin Sci 2011, Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol 2012, J Trauma 2013, Sci Rep 2019).
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves pulmonary edema, systemic inflammation, and promotes neural regeneration (Mediators Inflamm 2013, J Trauma Acute Care Surg 2014).
  • Extended application value, including heat shock protein induction for improving high altitude pulmonary edema and brain injury (J Neuroinflammation 2017, Eur J Clin Invest 2015, J Formos Med Assoc 2015).
  • Invited review articles discussing the pathophysiological mechanisms and treatment methods of heat stroke (Brain Behav 2016, Curr Neuropharmacol 2013, Prog Brain Res 2007, Curr Med Chem 2003).
  • In pregnant rats, hypothalamic damage causes decreased heat tolerance (Mol Cell Endocrinol 2019).
  • Ischemia, hypoxia, and oxidative stress cause hypothalamic damage, leading to multiple organ failure, related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis defect, reducing heat tolerance (Curr Neuropharmacol 2013, FEBS Open Bio 2015).
  • Peripheral organ damage may be related to systemic (hyper)inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), which correlates with the severity of heat injury (J Formos Med Assoc 2019, Int J Med Sci 2020). Peripheral organ damage (e.g., intestinal injury) may exacerbate neuronal death through exosomal microRNA expression (Sci Rep 2020).
  • Cardiac function is severely impaired under heat stress (Int J Med Sci 2020, Int J Cardiol 2016 & 2013), and the mechanisms leading to long-term cardiac dysfunction due to heat stress are elucidated (Life Sciences 2023).
  • Exercise-induced heat stroke causes erectile dysfunction, poor differentiation of seminiferous tubules, poor sperm quality, and prostatitis in animal models (Sci Rep 2021).
