For any respiratory-related acute and severe patients, in the intensive care unit, emergency room or ward, respiratory therapists provide patients adjustment, optimization, management of mechanical ventilation and patients disengagement training, so that critically ill  patients have complete their respiratory therapy care.

As the patient's disease progresses and affects the function of  important organs, respiratory therapists provide oxygen therapy and assessment to improve the patient's symptoms of dyspnea and relieve the pressure on various organs  in a hypoxic environment, thereby reducing patient deaths, improving clinical symptoms, and improve patient quality of life and extend patient life.

When the respiratory tract is irritated (including inflammation, allergies or irritation by certain odors, etc.), mucus secretion increases and sputum is easily produced. When mucus blocks the small airways, respiratory infections can easily occur. Respiratory therapists use airway clearance techniques :common types of airway clearance treatments include manual techniques such as postural drainage, manual sputum tapping, percussion and mechanical-assisted treatments (high frequency chest wall oscillation mode airway cleaning (HFCWO), expectoration machine, sputum tapping device to avoid the accumulation of sputum, keep the airways open for patients with respiratory diseases, avoid lung infection and prevent from lung function deteriorating.
