Emergency medicine is at the forefront of medical care, and the medical team needs to make quick judgments and urgent dispositions. However, emergency medical conditions and their influencing factors are diverse. Patient’s conditions may rapidly deteriorate. In severe cases, patients might suffer from myocardial infarction, sepsis or even death. Depending on gender, age, underlying diseases, and laboratory results, patients can have different outcomes. How to make personalized and accurate risk predictions is therefore a very challenging goal for the medical team. However, with the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, this goal has been achieved at the Chi Mei Medical Center. Starting from June 2019, the Chi Mei AI team has been targeting patients with common high-risk illnesses in the emergency department. Based on the patient data collected from our three hospitals over the past ten years, using leading AI technology, we have established disease risk prediction models for eight major diseases and integrated them into our existing emergency information system. This provides our clinicians with decision-making assistance, improves emergency care, promotes shared decision-making and enhances the quality of medical services.
