Purpose
The purpose of this training program at Chi Mei Hospital is to train emergency medicine specialists in geriatric medicine. The goals of the program are to: (1) learn how to comprehensively deal with the complex problems of geriatric emergency patients through interdisciplinary team training; (2) strengthen geriatric medicine knowledge and capabilities, and obtain either the geriatrics board specialization, hospice-palliative care specialization or the geriatrics-hospice co-qualification; (3) have the ability to teach and perform research in geriatric emergency medicine.

Method of implementation
Physicians entering this training program must be board-certified emergency physicians. They can enter the one-year training program after approval by the geriatric emergency medicine faculty review group. During the program, in addition to receiving specialist training from the department of geriatrics, these physicians must also participate in the teaching, research and quality improvement activities of geriatric emergency medicine team. They will also receive training in hospice and palliative medicine.

Assessment
During training, physicians will complete the core curriculum as required by the Taiwan Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. After completion of the training period, required curriculum and approval by the faculty of the Department of Geriatrics, a training certificate "Subspecialty of Geriatric Emergency Medicine" of the Emergency Medicine Department of Chi Mei Hospital will be issued.
